Annie Yu Career

Yu anchors WUSA9 News weekday mornings from 4:25 a.m. until 7 a.m. In October 2018, she joined the “Wake Up Washington” and “Get Up DC” teams. Her career as a journalist began in the nation’s capital. She worked for Fox O&O in Washington, D.C., for 15 years, both on the air and behind the scenes.

She assisted in the production of coverage and reporting for major events such as the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial Dedication, U.S. Presidential Elections, Gubernatorial races, the D.C. Mayoral Race in 2010, Barack Obama and Donald Trump’s inaugurations, the Washington Capitals’ Stanley Cup Parade, and the Nationals’ World Series Parade.

Yu began publicizing the tales of surviving military spouses who had been fighting the “Widow’s Tax,” which deprives more than 65,000 families of a benefit, in February 2019. That same year, a decades-long injustice that robbed money from surviving spouses’ purses was finally abolished.

The constant reporting, storming the Hill on many occasions with the surviving spouses and pushing lawmakers accountable all contributed to this bill reaching historic milestones. WUSA9 was acknowledged by various lawmakers, as well as in the Congressional Record: Proceedings and Debates in the 116th Congress, for bringing attention to this critical topic.

Some of her more unusual tasks over the years included learning to trapeze, flying with members of the Andrews Air Show, and even going behind the scenes with working military canines. For several football seasons, she co-hosted a weekly Sunday morning show called “Redskins Game Time,” as well as a web show called “The Red Zone,” which won a coveted Edward R. Murrow Award.
