Lampkin began working for WUSA 9 in December of 2019. He comes from KSDK-TV in St. Louis, Missouri, which is WUSA 9’s sister station. Also, he has always been fascinated by weather since he was a boy growing up in St. Louis. He witnessed various major weather occurrences as a child, including the 1982 “blizzard” and the Great Flood of 1993.
Lampkin worked as a Saturday morning meteorologist for KSDK-TV for three years. He left KSDK and the United States in 2015 to embark on an adventure in Australia. He worked as a meteorologist at MetService New Zealand for two years, which is the New Zealand version of the National Weather Service. Lampkin returned to KSDK-TV as a weekday morning meteorologist in April 2017.
Lampkin covered the costliest hailstorm in St. Louis history in 2012, significant flooding in 2019, and other winter storms and tornado outbreaks over the years while in St. Louis. He assisted in providing coverage during Cyclone Winston, one of the most devastating and intense tropical systems ever recorded in the southern hemisphere.
His broadcasting career began as a morning meteorologist at KJCT News 8 in Grand Junction, Colorado. Lampkin previously worked as the morning and chief meteorologist at KRCG-TV in Jefferson City, Missouri, and as the morning meteorologist at KTSM-TV, the NBC station in El Paso, Texas.
