Acting

Wolfhard made his acting and television debut as Zoran in The 100, after getting his first acting job from Craiglist. Moreover, his second role was that of Jordie Pinsky in Supernatural. In 2016, in the Netflix series Stranger Things, he began portraying Mike Wheeler. Additionally, he saw an open casting call and auditioned for the role via video. Along with his castmates, they won a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. In a 2017 episode of Spike’s Lip Sync Battle, he and co-stars Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, and Gaten Matarazzo competed against each other.

Furthermore, in the Netflix animated series Carmen Sandiego which premiered on January 18, 2019, he starred as Player, the title character’s chief accomplice, and friend.

Moreover, he played Richie Tozier in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s It which was his feature film debut. It was released on 8th September 2017. However, it had been a coincidence in his casting in both Stranger Things and It, both set in the ’80s. He had been initially cast as Richie according to him when Cary Fukunaga was attacked as director and co-writer. However, the role fell through when Fukunaga left the project over creative differences. Consequently, it allowed him to pursue Stranger Things. Additionally, he had to re-audition for the role of Richie when Andy Muschietti became attached to it.

However, he parted ways with his former agency, APA on October 20, 2017. Following allegations that Tyler Grasham had sexually assaulted aspiring young male actors, he fired him. He had not been assaulted. He signed with a talent agency, CAA on January 9, 2018.

Additionally, in the Ken Marino-directed ensemble comedy film, Dog Days in 2018, he played Tyler, an altruistic and thoughtful pizza delivery boy.

It Chapter Two

In addition, in 2019, in flashbacks for the sequel It Chapter Two, he reprised his role as young Richie. Also, he co-starred in The Goldfinch, the John Crowley-directed adaptation of Donna Tartt’s novel. He played a Ukrainian student and troublemaker named Young Boris Pavlikovsky. However, he had not been the director’s first choice but his near-perfect Russian accent in his audition helped him get the role. For Boris, he wanted to cast an authentic Russian actor. Also, he provided the voice of Pugsley Addams in an animated remake of The Addams Family the same year. it premiered on 11th October.

Moreover, he made his modeling debut in Saint Laurent’s Fall/Winter campaign on May 27, 2019.

He portrayed Miles in Amblin’s haunted house film The Turning in January 2020. It was Henry James’ The Turn of The Screw novella adaptation. In March, he made his SXSW Film Festival debut. In April 2020, he lent his voice to two Adult Swim productions. He also voiced a gender-swapped version of Rapunzel. To raise money for World Central Kitchen, he joined the Jason Reitman television series adaptation Home Movie: The Princess Bride.

When You Finish Saving the World

He starred in Jesse Eisenberg’s Audible Original When You Finish Saving the World in August 2020. Moreover, together with his brother, Nick they headlined the voice cast of sci-fi animation series NEW-GEN alongside Anya Chalota, playing two brothers. It was announced on August 19, 2020, he had joined director Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion animated musical feature in an undisclosed role.

Moreover, he will star with Carrie Coon in November 2021 in Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. He will play the son of Coon’s single mother with Mckenna race as his younger sister.

Directing

Watford made his directorial debut in August 2020 at the age of 17 with the comedy short film, Night Shifts. Moreover, he released Night Shifts on YouTube the following year. With Josh Ovalle, he had co-directed his first music video. This was earlier in 2017 for the Band, Spendtime Palace’s “Sonora”.
