Gal  Gadot Biography

Born in Petah Tikva, Israel, Gal Gadot is an Israeli actress, model, and producer. She is widely known for being crowned Miss Israel in 2004 and for her role in Wonder Woman (2017), Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), Netflix’s Red Notice, and Justice League ( 2021). The actress served for two years in the Israel Defences Forces as a soldier.

Gal Gadot Family: Parents and Siblings

Gadot was born to a teacher and an engineer. Her mother is named Irit, a teacher, and her father is named Michael Gadot, an engineer. Both her parents were born in Israel and they changed their surname “Greenstein” to Hebrew name, now Gadot.

She has a sibling sister named Dana. Dana is younger and the only sibling of the actress.

Gadot got married in 2008 to an Israeli real estate developer named Yaron Varsano. The two met while she was still serving in the military. They met at an event in the desert (desert yoga retreat), South of Israel.  The film producer, together with her husband formed a production company, Pilot Wave, in 2019. They also owned a hotel in Tel Aviv, however, they sold it to Roman Abramovich in 2015 for $26 million.

In a Tweet by the actress on September 29, 2020, she wrote: “Happy anniversary @JaronVarsano, you’re my one. My only. My everything. 12 years of marriage feels like a walk in the park with you. To many more to come. I’m yours forever.”

In 2004, and at the age of 18 years, Gadot was crowned Miss Israel. She then served in Israel Defense Forces as a soldier for two years having joined when she was 20 years old.  While in the military, she enlisted as a fitness instructor. After her two years of service in the military, she joined IDC Herzliya College where she studied Law and Government.

Moreover, Gal also represented  Israel in Miss Universe 2004 pageant which was held in Ecuador. The model was featured as a Covergirl on various magazines including Cosmopolitan, Entertainment Weekly, Glamour, Fashion, UMM, Cleo, Lucire, FHM, New York Post, and Bride Magazine.  In addition, she was the main model for the Castro fashion brand between 2008 and 2016. She also modeled for brands like Miss Sixty, Captain Morgan rum, Huawei smartphones, Gucci fragrances, Jaguar Cars, and Vine Vera Skincare ranges.

Gal Gadot Cleopatra and Whitewashing Controversy

Gadot announced in October 2020, that she was going to star in Hanna Flint Called it, which she also co-produced. After the announcement, critics said that an Arab or an African actress should play Cleopatra, an ancient Egyptian queen. In her defense, she told BBC Arabic: “We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra, she wasn’t there. And I was very passionate about Cleopatra.”

The actress further added: “I have friends across the globe, whether they’re Muslims or Christian or Catholic or atheist or Buddist, or Jewish of course. People are people, and with me, I want to celebrate the legacy of Cleopatra, and honor this amazing historic icon that I admire so much.”

On October 12, 2020, Gal tweeted:  “As you might have heard I teamed up with @PattyJenks and @LKalogridis to bring the story of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, to the big screen in a way she’s never been seen before. To tell her story for the first time through women’s eyes, both behind and in front of the camera.”

Gadot has an estimated net worth of $30 million as of 2020.  In 2020, she was named among the five highest-paid actresses in the world after receiving $20 million for her role in the Netflix film Red Notice.  The New York Times, reported on December 7, 2020, that the actress was paid more than $10 million for Wonder Woman 1984. She has earned her worth through acting, film and television production, and fashion modeling.
