In 2004, and at the age of 18 years, Gadot was crowned Miss Israel. She then served in Israel Defense Forces as a soldier for two years having joined when she was 20 years old. Gadot announced in October 2020, that she was going to star in Hanna Flint Called it, which she also co-produced. After the announcement, critics said that an Arab or an African actress should play Cleopatra, an ancient Egyptian queen. In her defense, she told BBC Arabic: “We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra, she wasn’t there. And I was very passionate about Cleopatra.”
