She has made appearances in many television series and films such as, The Pat Tate Story, Holby City, Rise of the Footsoldier, and Coronation Street since leaving Emmerdale. She has starred in several theatre productions across the UK including stints in Bedroom Farce and Up ‘n’ Under in addition to her onscreen roles.
Moreover, she made her acting debut when she appeared in two episodes of the BBC soap opera Doctors as Sam Doyle in January 2011. Later, she was cast in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale as Rachel Breckle after six months. Additionally, she decide to leave the soap in October 2013 and made her on-screen exit in January 2014. Furthermore, she made her return to the soap in January 2015, and departed again in August. Sadly, the character was killed in 2019 thus ruling out a return for Oaten.
For her role as Rachel, she won nominations in the Newcomer categories at the TV Quick Awards and British Soap Awards. In addition, she went on to play Stacey Bayton in April 2015, in an episode of the BBC medical drama series Casualty. From 2017 to 2018, she again joined the cast of Holby City where she played the role of Sydney Somers in four episodes. Furthermore, she portrayed Isla Haywood in 2021 in two episodes of the ITV soap opera Coronation Street. She as well appeared on Celebrity Antiques Road Trip and several daytime television shows like Lorraine and This Morning where she has openly discussed her experiences with anorexia.
