Sargent began her journalism career in 2000 as a reporter/anchor at the NBC-affiliate KOMU-TV in Columbia. She worked at the station for two years before leaving and joining the London bureau of NBC News where she worked for several years before finally leaving.
She later practiced labor and employment law for four years in New York City’s Greenberg Traurig law firm from 2006 to 2010 where she represented clients in New York federal and state courts and also provided free legal services to the needy ones.
