James Earl whose fullname is James Earl Jones is an American actorwho has worked for almost seven decades. For his roles in film, stage, and television, he has been called “one of America’s most distinguished and varied” performers.  He is as well known as “one of the greatest actors in American history.”

James Earl Family | Parents

Ruth Jones, a teacher and maid, and Robert Earl Jones, a boxer, butler, and driver, gave birth to James Earl Jones on January 17, 1931, in Arkabutla, Mississippi. Soon after James Earl’s birth, his father left the family and went on to become a stage and film performer in New York and Hollywood. Jones and his father did not meet until the 1950s, after which they reconciled. In interviews, he has stated that both of his parents are of mixed African-American, Irish, and Native American descent.

Jones was raised on a farm in Jackson, Michigan, by his maternal grandparents, John Henry and Maggie Williams, from the age of five; they had relocated from Mississippi during the Great Migration.

Jones was married to Julienne Marie, an American actress and singer whom he met in 1964 while playing as Othello. They divorced in 1972 after having no children. He married actress Cecilia Hart in 1982, and they have one child, Flynn Earl Jones (born 1982). On October 16, 2016, Hart died of ovarian cancer.

Education

Jones attended the Browning School for Boys in high school and graduated from Dickson Rural Agricultural School (now Brethren High School) in Brethren, Michigan, as vice president of his class. He was a pre-med major at the University of Michigan when he graduated. Jones enlisted in the Reserve Officer Training Corps and performed admirably. He appreciated the companionship of his fellow cadets in the Pershing Rifles Drill Team and the Scabbard and Blade Honor Society, and he felt at ease in the military milieu. It was during his studies that Jones found that he was not cut out to be a doctor.

Instead, he concentrated on drama at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance in the hopes of accomplishing something he enjoyed before being drafted to fight in the Korean War, which he expected he would have to do. Jones graduated from the institution in 1955 after four years of education.

He started his acting profession as an entertainer on the stage. Preceding his tactical help, he worked low maintenance at the ‘Ramsdell Theatre.’  In 1953, he functioned as a phase craftsman.
