While filming with Dobrik and the Vlog Squad, Wittek was badly injured in Utah in 2020. He swung from a rope attached to the end of an excavator’s arm while Dobrik was illegally operating the excavator in a shallow lake. He collided with the arm and fell when the excavator stopped. Ligaments in his leg were torn, his hip and foot were broken, his left eye socket was fractured, and his skull was fractured in nine places. However, without addressing the injuries, he continued to regularly film his Jeff’s Barbershop series.
After nearly ten months of speculation from the public, the docuseries Don’t Try This at Home was released in 2021. He explained the circumstances surrounding the injury in the five episodes. Additionally, he also spoke about how the incident affected his relationship with Dobrik and described life in recovery from a near-fatal accident. He pivoted to Patreon because the footage of his injuries was deemed too graphic for YouTube after releasing the first episode. In the first ten days, his Patreon account gained 37,000 followers. This made him the highest-paid creator of 18+ content on the platform and one of the most followed creators on that platform.
