Born in Washington DC, Jim Acosta is an  American journalist who also serves as the Chief domestic affairs correspondent for CNN. Additionally, he served as the network’s chief White House correspondent,  and as the national political correspondent for CNN, during the Trump administration.

Acosta started his professional career on the radio. His first job, he worked for WMAL in Washington, D.C. In 1994, he shifted from radio and joined WTTG- Television where he worked as a desk assistant. From 1995 up to 1998 he worked as a reporter and a substitute anchor at WBIR- TV in Knoxville.

In 1998 he joined KTVT-TV in Dallas, where he worked as a reporter until the year 2000. From 2000 up to 2001, He was a reporter at WBBM-TV in Chicago. From 2001, Acosta became a correspondent for CBS and Newspath service, both based in Dallas. He worked there until 2003. He also worked as a correspondent for CBS News from February 20003 until March 2007.

During his tenor at CBS News, Acosta covered the Iraq war from Baghdad and Hurrican Katrina. He also covered John Terry during the 2004 campaign of Democratic presidential candidate.

Acosta later joined CNN in April 2007. The following year, he frequently appeared as an anchor of CNN’s weekend political program, whereby he covered the 2008 presidential campaigns of Democratic candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

In February 2012, he held a national political correspondent role after being promoted by CNN. In his new role, he covered the 2012 presidential campaign of Republican nominee Mitt Romney. During that period Acosta was CNN’s senior white house correspondent.

During President Obama’s trip to Cuba in march 2016, Acosta pressed Cuban president Raul Castro on his countries human rights record. He pressed the Cuban leader on human rights record when he covered a news conference that featured both Obama and Raul Castro. on January 9, 2018, he was promoted to white house correspondent.

CNN, announced that the Journalist,  would move to chief domestic affairs correspondent and a weekend anchor in January 2021. The move to the post of Chief domestic affairs correspondent, aligned with the incoming Biden administration.
