Jimbo is the stage name of James Insell. She is a Canadian designer and drag performer most known as a contestant in the first season of Canada’s Drag Race (2020) and later the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK Versus the World.

Jimbo Family

Originally from London, Ontario, the drag queen and his brother Jeff were both interested in creative pursuits from childhood, including early drag play. However, Insell studied biology at the University of Western Ontario, respecting his father’s wishes that he pursue a career-oriented education. However, the drag queen opted not to pursue employment in the field and instead moved to Victoria, British Columbia. Here, he began working as a costume and production designer.

The drag name Jimbo is a synonym for James. Her dad called her by the name Jimbo as a boy and used to sing to her this little song “Jimbolina, jimbolina”. Moreover one of her partners, later on, called her by that name so eventually, stick to it.

Jimbo Drag Race: UK vs. The World

The drag queen Jimbo is one of the nine contestants of the television series RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs. The World which premiered on BBC Three on February 1, 2022. The queens from across the global Drag Race franchise will be competing for the queen of the world crown in the show.

Jimbo Career

The drag queen has worked predominantly in local theatre including productions of James and the Giant Peach and The Rocky Horror Show. However, she has also had credits on a number of television films produced by Front Street Pictures for the Hallmark Channel and on the children’s television series Pup Academy.

Moreover, Insell appeared in the music video for Victoria musician Adrian Chalifour’s single “Open Heart”. Additionally for the music video for his song “Imma,” he appeared as the drag mother to British Columbian rapper bbnos.

Emerging as a popular fan favorite and winning the key Snatch Game challenge for his performance as Joan Rivers, he appeared on the first season of Canada’s Drag Race in 2020. However, he was eliminated from the competition in fourth place. Moreover, he performed a drag recreation of The Buggles 1979 hit “Video Killed the Radio Star”.

In 2021 the drag queen made a return appearance in the second season of Canada’s Drag Race appearing in the third episode as the killer in the slasher film-themed musical challenge “Screech”.

In addition, in January 2022 the drag queen was announced as one of the nine contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK Versus the World.
