Holmes’s career began at the current affairs department of the BBC in 1971 in Britain. This was until the Australian Broadcasting Corporation hired him in 1982 to become the executive producer of Four Corners, ABC’s flagship current affairs program. Additionally, the journalist was the executive producer of Four Corners from 1982 to 1985, of Foreign Correspondent (1992-1993), and the 7.30 Report (2001-2002). Moreover, Jonathan was ABC’s foreign correspondent in Washington, D.C. from 1998 to 2000. Furthermore, in January 2003, Holmes returned to Four Corners.
In addition, in 1988, Holmes wrote, produced, and narrated the award-winning documentary film Hoddle Street, about the 1987 Hoddle Street massacre.
