Lester Holt is an American journalist as well as a news anchor for Dateline NBC and the weekday edition of NBC Nightly News. Following the demotion of Brian Williams, he was made the permanent anchor of NBC Nightly News on 18th June 2015. He became the first African-American ever to solo anchor a weekday network nightly newscast.

Holt spent 19 years of his life as an anchor, reporter, and international correspondent. He was hired as a reporter for WCBS-TV in New York City In 1981. He then became a reporter and weekend anchor on KNXT in Los Angeles, in 1982. The following year, he returned to WCBS-TV as a reporter and weekend anchor. He then moved to WBBM-TV in Chicago in 1986, where he spent 14 years working as an anchor for the evening news. He also reported extensively from troubled spots around the world including Iraq, Somalia, Northern Ireland, Haiti, and El Salvador.
