In 2011, covering ‘Tropical Storm Lee’ was one of Villegas’s early milestones in its own right. She was a meteorologist for KRGV-TV in Weslaco, Texas on the morning of a weekend from 2011 to 2014. Initially, she worked as a weekend morning meteorologist for CBS News from 2014 until 2015 and as a weather scientist in the morning between September 2015 and October 2017.

Later, she traveled to the Dallas/Ford Worth region of Texas. In October 2017, Villegas moved to Arizona, Tucson, where she was hired at the KOLD/KMSB-TV as chief meteorologist. By September 2020, she was there.
