Marilyn Milian is an American well known television personality, lecturer, and retired Florida Circuit Court judge. Additionally, she has presided over the American courtroom television series The People’s Court since March 12, 2001. Besides, she is the first Hispanic arbitrator to preside over a court show.

Milian started her career at Harvard Law School where she worked as director of training for the Guatemala Project. Additionally, her roles included training the Guatemalan trial judiciary, defense, and prosecution bar in investigatory and trial techniques.

Moreover, she was then appointed by Janet Rono, then state attorney for the county, as an assistant state attorney for Dade County. In addition, she worked for five years in the Miami County Court in the Domestic Violence Court, Criminal, and Civil divisions. Later, she was appointed by Jeb Bush who was the then Florida governor, to the Miami Circuit Court. Besides, she served there in the Criminal Division in 1999.

Throughout her time at Harvard, she served as the director of training for the Guatemalan project. This role included her training in Guatemalan judges and lawyers. Additionally, she lends her support to many community and philanthropic organizations. Besides, she is  spokesperson for the FBI’s Safe Online Surfing (FBI-SOS)campaign.

Furthermore, she has served as emcee for a number of charitable causes, such as the Latino Commission on AIDS, the Miami-Dade County Teachers Awards, the Lighthouse for the Blind, the South Florida Children’s Home Society, and Hope for Vision.

Milian joined The People’s Court as a judge, replacing Jerry Sheindlin in 2001. Moreover, she was the first Latina arbitrator to preside over a court show. Additionally, the show is the first arbitration-based reality court show and the second-longest-running court show in history.

Marilyn Milian Education

Milian attended her high school education at St. Brendan High School. Later in 1981, she joined the University of Miami for her college education where she took an undergraduate degree in psychology graduating summa cum la ude, with a 4.0-grade point average.
