Born in Sneedville, Tennessee, Morgan  Cole Wallen is an American country singer and songwriter. He rose to fame after competing in The Voice season 6, in 2014. The singer won Country Music Association Awards New Artist of the Year  Award in 2019.

Wallen was booted off Saturday Night Live in October 2020, breaking the sketch series’ covid-19 safety protocol. He was seen inside a club partying his actions prompting his appearance to be canceled. He, however, was recast two months after the incidence.

Prior to that, in May 2020, he was arrested in Nashville and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges after a night drinking at Kid Rock’s downtown honky-tonk. He was not prosecuted for the charges(source: Rollingstone)

Racial Slur Video

On February 2, 2021, TMZ posted a video that appeared to show Wallen referring to a person with a racial slur. The video which seemingly was filmed by a neighbor, showed Morgan returning from a night out in Nashville with a group of friends. Following the emergence of the video, TMZ reported that he had issued an apology statement: ” I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever.”

Moreover, Radio stations, streaming services, and record labels distanced themselves from Wallen after the video of him using a racial slur surfaced online. By Wednesday morning, February 3, 2021, Apple, Spotify, iHeartmedia, Entercom had removed Morgan from playlists and airwaves. The country singer’s record label and management company, Big Loud, announced that it would suspend his contract indefinitely. Sir frousXM also pulled his music from its platforms and so is Cumulus Media, a major owner of country music stations. In addition, CMT television network said it was pulling all of Morgan’s appearances from its platform.
