Schnapp was five years old when his desire for acting started. This happened after watching the Broadway production of Annie. Moreover, in school and community plays, he performed acting. His acting teacher suggested he go professional when he was eight years old. He was enrolled in an acting program at Westchester’s Star Kidz with coach Alyson Isbrandtsen by his parents. However, he was referred to MKS&D Talent Management for career opportunities by his coach Alyson.

In addition, his first onscreen role was in Steven Spielberg’s historical drama film Bridge of Spies in 2015, along with Tom Hanks. Also, in 2015’s The Peanuts Movie, he voiced the lead character, Charlie Brown. Moreover, he was cast as Will Byers. This was in 2016 in the Netflix science fiction-horror web television series Stranger Things. Additionally, he played Lucas in 2017 in ‘We Only Know So Much’ based on the Elizabeth Crane novel. He was also in Intensive Care as TJ Swift in 2018. Additionally, his role as Evan, a rude teenage Uber rider was recurring in Liza Koshy’s YouTube premium series.

Furthermore, he had the lead character of ‘Abe’, an indie drama that tells the story of Abraham in 2018. It is about a 12-year-old boy who has never known a family dinner without an argument and has a passion for cooking. The film is in production in New York, directed by Fernando Grostein Andrade.

It was announced that he was going to be a comedy horror film Hubie Halloween in 2019. He played along with Adam Sandler. It was a top-streamed title in its first two weeks of release, (it was digitally released by Netflix on October 7, 2020).

In addition, he played Jo, a 13-year-old shepherd along with the help of the widow Horcada in 2020. It is based on a popular YA book by Michael Morpurgo, author of The War Horse, in a drama film Waiting for Arya. Jewish children are smuggled across the border from southern France into Spain.
