Richard Hammond Biography

Richard Hammond (born Richard Mark Hammond) is an English journalist, television presenter, mechanic, and writer. Hammond is best known for co-hosting the BBC Two motoring program Top Gear from 2002 until 2015 with Jeremy Clarkson and James May.

Hammond attended Blossomfield Infant School in Solihull’s Sharmans Cross district from age to 7. Moreover, the writer moved to Ripon Grammar School though he was originally a pupil of Solihull School, a fee-paying boys’ independent school. Later, from 1986 to 1988, Hammond attended Harrogate College of Art and Technology.

Richard Hammond Career

After finishing school, Richard began working for several BBC radio stations such as Radio Cleveland, Radio York, Radio Cumbria, Rdio Leeds, and Rdio Newscastle. Moreover, at Radio Lancashire, Hammond met motoring journalist Zogg Ziegler when he was presenting the afternoon program. He would interview Ziegler over the phone for a weekly car review segment. Moreover, Ziegler encouraged the journalist to try out motoring reviews on television.

Top Gear

The journalist auditioned for the British motor program ‘YTop Gear’ and became a presenter on the show in 2002 on its revamped format. Hammond continued on the sho for several years until his contract expired in March 2015. Additionally, Richard returned for a 75-minute ‘Top Gear” special in June 2015. Moreover, Hammond earned the nickname Hamster while on Top Gear from fans for his small stature compared to his co-presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May

Other television work

Furthermore, the television personality became a presenter of the Sky1 entertainment documentary show “Brainiac: Science Abuse” in 2003. For series 2 of the show, Hammond was joined by co-presenters Jon Tickle and Charlotte Hudson. However, after he signed an exclusive deal with the BBC, Hammond left the show after the fourth series and was replaced by Vic Reeves.

Furthermore, Hammond has been involved in other projects such as; the “Crufts’ dog show.

Hammond crashed a Rimac Concept One on June 10, 2017, while filming for The Grand Tour in Hemberg, Switzerland.
