Ricky Powell Death  |  Cause of Death

Powell passed away on February 1, 2021, at the age of 59 years. His manager and business partner, Tono Radvany, told complex: “I just want to let everybody know he will be sorely missed.”

It has been reported that he died from heart failure.

Ricky Powell Career and Education

Powell was a photographer from New York and an author of four books. He rose to fame when he went on tour with the beasties group in 1986. His connection with the Beasties group saw him quit his job of selling lemon-ice to accompany them on tour with Run-DMC. Thie tour opened an opportunity for him to become a Def Jam’s house photographer.

As a photographer, he shot for Rolling Stone, The Post, The Time, and the Village Voice.

Ricky interviewed celebrities on Rappin” with the Rickster between 1990-1996. He interviewed stars including Doug E Fresh, Harold Hunter, Kool Keith, Cypress Hill. The photographer also interviewed non-celebrities on the show as the first guest of the show who was a homeless man in Washington Square.

He attended LaGuardia Community College where he graduated with an AA in Liberal Arts and also attended Hunter, graduating with a B.S in Physical Education. He attended school at PS41 with Adam Horovitz, a member of the group of the Beasties Boys as Ad-Rock.
