Also, he is known for being a host at the satirical Comedy Central program The Colbert Report from 2005 to 2014.

Colbert was born in Washington, D.C and later, he was raised by his parents in the Charleston suburb of James Island, South Carolina. James William Colbert Jr., his father, was an immunologist and medical school dean at Yale University, Saint Louis University, and, lastly, the Medical University of South Carolina, where he served as the school’s first vice president of academic affairs from 1969 to 1969. On the other hand, his mother, Lorna Elizabeth, was a homemaker.

Siblings

Colbert is the youngest in his family. They are a family of eleven children, nine brothers, and 2 sisters. He was raised alongside his siblings: James III, Edward, Mary, William, Margo, Thomas, Jay, Elizabeth, Paul, and Peter. His sister, Elizabeth is an economist and politician. She is also the Director of Business Development at Clemson University’s Restoration Institute.

Evelyn is known to be the daughter of prominent Charleston civil litigator Joseph McGee, of the firm Buist Moore Smythe McGee. After high school, Colbert enrolled at Hampden–Sydney College in Virginia. At the beginning of the year 1982, he decided to major in philosophy as he continued to participate in plays. The Dana Carvey Show

Colbert was a cast member and writer on The Dana Carvey Show for six months. Before obtaining a position filming comedic pieces for Good Morning America, he worked as a screenplay consultant for VH1 and MTV. Madeline Smithberg, the producer of The Daily Show, hired him in 1997.

Strangers with Candy (1999–2000)

Strangers with Candy, which Colbert developed with David Sedaris and Dinello for Comedy Central, is a new comedy series. Colbert had already started working on The Daily Show when the show was canceled in 1998. He then repeated his role in the series’ cinematic adaptation.

The Daily Show (1997–2005)

In 1997, when The Daily Show was in its second season, Colbert joined the cast. Later, in 2004, 2005, and 2006, Colbert won three Emmys as a writer for The Daily Show. In the “This Week in God” segments, Colbert’s voice is still used as the sound effect for the God Machine. Under the name “Klassic Kolbert,” later programs repurposed prior Colbert pieces.
