Carlson is a son of Richard Warner Carlson. Richard is a former “gonzo reporter” and the director of the Voice of America. He also worked as a president of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, as well as the United States ambassador to Seychelles. His mother was artist Lisa McNear. He has a brother also, whose name is Buckley Peck Carlson who is nearly a couple of years younger. His parents divorced after the nine-year marriage and Carlson’s father was granted custody of his brother and Tucker. His father later married divorcée Patricia Caroline Swanson in 1979, who is an heiress to Swanson Enterprises.

Carlson’s early evening show, ‘Tucker’, premiered on 13th June 2005 on MSNBC. During the 2006 Winter Olympics, he also hosted a late-afternoon weekday wrap-up for the network. He reported live for Tucker from Haifa, Israel, in July 2006 during the 2006 Lebanon War between Hezbollah and Israel in southern Lebanon. All the same, he was canceled by the network on March 10, 2008, which was attributed to low ratings, and the final episode aired on 14th March 2008.
