Born Lucy Jane Cohen, Lucy Owen is a Welsh television news reader. She is one of the most experienced broadcasters in Wales. In addition, Owen presents BBC One Wales’ flagship news program Wales Today, and BBC One Wales’ primetime consumer program X-Ray, alongside her husband Rhodri Owen.

Owen began her broadcasting career as a researcher at BBC Radio Wales. Later, she progressed to a reporting and co-presenting role for a features program. Additionally, Lucy joined HTV Wales in 1995 as a newsreader for regional opt-outs during GMTV. Moreover, between 1996 and 2007, she co-presented Wales Tonight, the regional news program on ITV Wales, broadcast from Cardiff.

In addition, she presented on the now defunct ITV News Channel and was also seen anchoring the main ITV News: Lunchtime News, Evening News, and Weekend News. She signed off from her last edition of Wales Tonight on Friday, October 19, 2007. Furthermore, she began presenting the BBC Wales evening news program BBC Wales Today on Monday, November 5, 2007, replacing long-standing presenter Sara Edwards. Additionally, it came to light that she was following in her late father – Jeff Cohen’s – footsteps as he had worked as an occasional freelance newsreader on Wales Today in 1962 whilst establishing his estate agency business to her surprise.

Furthermore, the newsreader also joined her husband on the team of BAFTA award-winning X-Ray as a result of the channel move. Moreover, since 2016, Owen has co-hosted X-Ray with Rachel Treadaway-Williams and comedian Omar Hamdi.
