John McCaa Biography

Born in Rantoul, Illinois, John McCaa is an American news anchor who worked for WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas, 1984 until his retirement on March 1, 2019.

McCaa attended high school in Madrid, Spain. He later moved back to Nebraska, where he lived before moving to Spain. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Creighton University.

McCaa also holds a Master’s degree in Politics from the University of Dallas. He also has a Ph.D. in Humanities-History of Ideas from the University of Texas at Dallas. He is a member of the Golden Key, Delta Epsilon Iota and Phi Kappa Phi Academic Honor Societies.

McCaa became the weekend news anchor, then news manager, and also once served as co-anchor for the 5 p.m. newscast. He hosted a series of webcasts from the Republican convention during the 2000 presidential primaries.

He later became the co-anchor of the 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m. weekday newscasts in 1992. McCaa mostly anchored alongside Gloria Campos until her retirement in 2014 after which she was replaced by Cynthia Izaguirre.

McCaa announced his retirement on August 6, 2018, and his last day at the station was March 1, 2019, where he did his final broadcast. He worked at WFAA for a total of 35 years. He was replaced by Chris Lawrence.
