A native of Santa Monica, California, Carson Daly is an American television host, personality, radio personality, and producer. Prior to this, he was a DJ for the Southern California-based radio station 106.7 KROQ-FM and a VJ on MTV’s Total Request Live.

KOME and KROQ

Daly’s broadcasting career began at KOME, a radio station in San Jose, California. At KROQ, KOME’s sister station in Los Angeles, he was given the 6-10 PM time slot. He was recruited by MTV to serve as a VJ during his time at KROQ. He was a VJ during MTV’s summer beach house programming called Motel California. Moreover, he was hired as MTV’s permanent VJ at the end of the summer of 1997. For this, he had to relocate to New York and here he began hosting MTV Live.

TRL and New Year’s Eve with Carson

From 199 to 2003, Daly hosted MTV’s TRL. Two shows, Total Request, and MTV Live both hosted by Daly made up TRL. He had to introduce 10 videos of the day and interview celebrity guests for his role as host of the popular live program. In addition,  Last Call with Carson Daly’s debut was in 2002. Moreover, the show was shot on the same set as Saturday Night Live until 2005 when it moved to Los Angeles. From 2003 to 2004, he began hosting  New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly for NBC.

The Voice

On NBC’s reality music competition, The Voice, Daly began hosting and executive-producing in 2011. He watched blind auditions alongside the contestant’s family members as his duties as host. Additionally, he won four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program as a producer of The Voice in 2013, and from 2015 to 2017. He became the sole host when social media correspondent Christina Millan departed the show.

My Name Is Earl

In the first episode of My Name Is Earl, Daly appears in a brief but pivotal role. From watching an episode of Last Call with Carson Daly, Earl learns about karma. Daly claims that his success is a direct result of doing good things for other people while in hospital after being hit by a car. Earl sets out to make up for his many past wrongs after being inspired by Carson Daly to turn his own life around. On Dave Chappelle’s show, Daly had a small role.

Today Show

In September 2013, on the Today Show, Daly became the orange room anchor (social media reporter). He also works for the show’s weekend edition (Weekend Today) and serves as a fill-in anchor for Willie Geist.

With Jonathan Rifkind, Jonathan B. Davis, and Bam Margera of an independent record label, 456 Enterprise & Entertainment, which released the Viva La Bands, compilations, Daly is a founding partner.
