Keoghan and a partner dived down to the shipwreck of MS Mikhail Lermontov 120 feet(37 m) underwater while he was 19 years of age. He was separated from his partner in the ship’s ballroom and suffered a panic attack, which he considered a near-death experience during filming. His diving partner rescued him. However, he insisted on facing his fear and returned the next day to complete filming though shaken. It is then that he set out to live his life to the fullest by accomplishing exotic goals and taking risks. He created a No Opportunity Wasted (NOW) list of activities he wanted to complete in his life.
He wrote in his book that he grabbed a pen and a paper and wrote down all the things he had to do in life. They include; climb Mt. Everest, go into space, travel the world, and hand-feed sharks. He also added that it was the first time he really stopped to think what dying could mean.
Since then, he has gone diving in the world’s longest underwater caves, broken a world bungee jumping record, renewed his vows underwater feeding sharks, and ate a meal on top of an erupting volcano. In addition, he shared with Oprah his list of things he wants to do before he dies when he was a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Moreover, the No Opportunity Wasted mantra reflected on the television show No Opportunity Wasted which he co-developed and initially premiered in 2004. In addition, he wrote a companion book with 8 ways to Create a List for the Life you Want.
